Amouage - Library Collection - Opus IX
"Opus IX" was inspired by the opera "La Traviata" by Giuseppe Verdi - especially the 1958 production which placed Maria Callas in the title role.
"La Traviata" (Italian for "The Fallen Woman") premiered in 1853 in Venice and was initially ill-received by the public before it became one of the most successful operas in music history. The opera tells the story of the dazzlingly beautiful courtesan Violetta. She has many admirers and is the center of a decadent circle of the Parisian upper class in 1850. As a famous courtesan, she is a paragon of life and love – but the deadly shadow of consumption hovers over her head. After her admirer Alfredo declares his love, she finally abandons her former life and eventually falls in love with him. But Alfredo's father only sees a woman with a disreputable past who endangers his family honor and implores Violetta to give up the relationship. Alfredo, who does not know about her past, reacts full of jealousy and mistakenly reviles Violetta in public. Too late, he learns that she has sacrificed her love to save him and his family. When he rushes to her full of remorse, it is too late: Violetta dies in his arms.

Amouage – Royal Gifts from the King of Oman
Since ancient times, the fabled land of Oman has been famous for its unique exotic incense and perfumes. But the trade in this precious product, as well as the entire perfume industry, was marked by highs and lows and, at one stage, was almost lost to the sands of time. Luckily this came to an end in 1983 as the Omani royal family, under His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, commissioned his Highness Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud al bu Said, also a member of the royal family, to revive the old Arabic culture of perfumery. This event marked the birth of the brand Amouage as a luxurious, internationally oriented fragrance house with oriental roots. To realize his vision Sayyid Hamand spared neither cost nor effort and the first fragrance of the house was the classic "Gold". The fragrance was introduced under the applause of the world press and the perfume became an instant success.
The name Amouage has been carefully selected. Although it sounds French, it is a purely conceptual term consisting, first, from the Arabic term "Amwaj", which means wave, and on the other from the French word for love, "amour". So Amouage means in a broader sense "the waves of emotions." The unique name reflects the spirit of the fragrances: their grace, their luster and their feeling - a very special gift for all those you love!
Library Collection
The House of Amouage is delighted to announce the launch of The Library Collection, a trio of remarkable, precious fragrances that celebrate integrity, originality and virtuosity. Devised by the House’ s Creative director, Christopher Chong, the three fragrances were inspired by the recollections and fragments we each acquire on our journey; the fragments that collectively represent a tome of memories. The name of the collection is drawn from the notion of the hidden treasures in a library; a notion that kindles our desire to discover, to learn.
Collectively, the Library Collection is a poetic homage to the art of living. Each fragrance has been given a "code", an Opus number, reflecting its status as a completed work within a greater collection. The three fragrances defy categorization, transcend gender and allow the wearer to create their own unique narrative. These are timeless classics, born of the age-old art of haute parfumerie.
Opus is presented in a flacon made of high quality crystal with a gold plated clasp. The clear, slightly rounded design of the flacon is a visual masterpiece and reflects the timeless nature of Amouage’s fragrance line. The slim flacon is wrapped in champagne-colored packaging covered with linen and bound with a thin black band reminiscent of an antique book.
