Nobile 1942 - Rudis Eau de Parfum
Putting on perfume is an art! And, like any artist worthy of respect, NOBILE 1942 has evolved over days, over years, pursuing a path of growth that materialises through experiences, updates, the exchange of ideas. We are always on the lookout for new opportunities and fall in love with each and every one!
Relying with pride on the origins of our history, analysing our vices and virtues, we inaugurate a new collection of fragrances, more opulent and overwhelming.
The first, RUDIS, is dedicated to a great virtue: Strength.
We are in ancient Rome. A young gladiator runs along the dusty road that leads him to the arena, mustering the little energy he has left in his drunken haze of fermented wine. He tries to banish fear, he tells himself:
"It is easy for the reckless to have courage.
I, Mirmillone Actius, know what I am about to face:
Death, blood, battle await me. Fear clenches my throat, my legs tremble, freeze and prevent me from walking.
…Why?
All of a sudden the cries of the lanista, the trainer, a blow to the shoulders, a sharp pain. I find myself in the arena before an excited crowd. Shouts resound above me, and there is nothing but anger, despair, my loneliness.
I am only 20 years old!!
No I do not give up.
Freedom is worth all this, I am nothing more than a slave, but I shall earn my new life. I will turn the tension that paralyses me into strength.
I feel the throbbing in my temples, I am more alive than ever. RUDIS awaits me.
I shall use all my energy and I shall fight with the fury of a beast and the dignity of a valiant soldier. I know that the Emperor is watching me, the time has come to put myself to the test.
Oh hated Rome! I shall cease to be a slave and become your HERO".
Because the path leading to the goals that we set ourselves is full of frightening pitfalls. Finding the Strength to face them, overcoming our fears, this is the greatest victory.
In line with our style, we chose an Italian Nose, Antonio Alessandria, a fairly new talent, but already quite successful.
Here are his thoughts:
"Rudis" was the wooden sword that was used in ancient Rome by gladiators during workouts. It was a practice tool and was made of wood because so that it would not cause injury. However "Rudis" was also the symbol of freedom and of valour. The sword was the gift that a gladiator would receive when he was relieved of his status of slave thanks to the valour he had shown during the fights.
"Rudis" represented both the beginning and the ultimate goal of the life and career of a gladiator. It was a tool, but also a symbol, it did not harm, but offered relief.
The scent inspired by this object, therefore, had to simultaneously consider strength and gentleness, battle and freedom, life and death, virility and weakness.
The representation of the sword’s wood was then countered by an accord between rose and geranium. However, the scent had to represent this man who, contemptuous of danger, sets out to regain his life, crossing the threshold of the arena. But fear is innate in humans, which is why the gladiator would drink himself into a stupor before a fight, with wine made from grape juice and fermented fruit. The first image that the perfume suggests is that of a drunken man, virile and ready to battle, dressed in leather to dodge and muffle the blows, as he enters the arena, filling it with the aura of his valour. The spectators observe from above and from a distance, but their impression of him is one of imposing stature. To wear "Rudis" means to be aware of your inner dimension".
